The Forest Stewardship Council^® (FSC) is an international not for profit organisation that encourages paper mills to find solutions to problems created by bad forestry practices and rewards good forest management. Kosdown and the FSC promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests.

The paper we use is harvested properly to maintain the forest's biodiversity and productivity. The FSC^® is a not-for-profit organisation; forest operations are structured to ensure resources, the ecosystem and communities are not adversely affected. The forest comes before profit.

Areas of natural wealth and endangered wildlife habitat are protected at all times.

The rights of workers and indigenous communities are respected. The FSC provides strong incentives to local communities to sustain local resources, so they directly benefit.

FSC certification ensures timber products are tracked through the entire supply chain, from source to sale, so you can be sure what you've ordered is what you're getting.

Only suppliers who have passed a rigorous accreditation process become FSC certified and can use the FSC logo. At Kosdown we can proudly say we're one of very few printers in Australia to do so.

At Kosdown responsible printing means more than just being FSC^® certified. We are also Waste Wise certified, use only 100% vegetable inks and processless plate making; we are part of Eco Buy and our warehousing capabilities ensure we save time, money and CO2 emissions.

Kosdown is a Silver accredited member of Waste Wise, an audited program managed by Sustainability Victoria. Each year Kosdown must demonstrate how we've become more efficient in the production and handling of our waste, and each year we must improve to remain Waste Wise accredited. This year alone we are recycling 97% of our waste, and we are on target to again increase that amount.

Kosdown only use 100% vegetable inks on our presses, replacing traditional petroleum based inks that required volatile chemicals for press clean up. Not only is this great for the environment, and the health of our staff, it also avoids the ever increasing cost of petroleum based products. We are also exploring new methods of ink application, using recyclable plastic tubes rather than tins, cutting waste to almost zero, reducing landfill and saving money.

With our on-site warehousing facility we are able to reduce the amount of deliveries each day by 80%, and buy paper in bulk, reducing costs and CO2 emissions. The Kosdown facility also means a cost saving to clients as they are able to order a larger run, and have it stored until required; printing one run of 50,000 is cheaper and more environmentally friendly than printing 5 runs of 10,000. And with our own delivery vehicle and driver we can deliver at anytime, on short notice.
