The Kosdown Way

Sustainable Australian Manufacturing

We have been committed to sustainable printing long before it became a talking point. To us sustainable printing is more than just being environmentally aware, it also makes economic sense and is a smarter way to do business.

We were one of the first in Australia, and indeed the first in Victoria to introduce water and chemical free plate making, a technology which offers immense water savings of over 150,000 litres a year. It is also far safer for our staff and the environment. In addition we only use 100% vegetable and soy based inks, again eliminating the need for harmful (and expensive) chemicals.

We are one of only a handful of printers in Australia to be fully certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC), an international organisation that encourages paper mills to find solutions to problems created by bad forestry practices and rewards good forest management.

Further to that we are also Waste Wise certified, with 97% of our waste being recycled or reused, and are part of ECO-Buy, a government funded organisation that supports the purchasing of green products. And we buy 90% of our paper in bulk lots and warehouse it on site, massively reducing CO2 emissions from deliveries and resulting in both cheaper and more environmentally friendly print runs.

We are proud to say we were winners of the 2008 CitiPower City of Port Phillip Business Excellence Award for Environmental Sustainably and we will continue to embrace and strive to develop further environmentally sustainable print practices for the benefit of everyone’s future.

We Think in INK

We Think In Ink

At Kosdown we really do think in ink, indeed when it comes to printing there’s not much we don’t know or can’t do.

From a simple one colour flyer all the way through to case-bound multi-coloured documents with embellishment, whether a project is large, small, complex or straight forward, at Kosdown we can do it. We run two A2+ offset presses 24 hours a day, and unlike many printers we can do all binding, stitching, forme-cutting and more in-house.

We were the first printers in Australia to import an Anapurna P272 6 colour large format digital printer and an Aristo Cutting Table, giving us unsurpassed large format printing and cutting capabilities.

And whether it’s that simple flyer or a huge project, you can be assured that we treat every job with the same care, concern and attention.

Knowledge Passion Commitment

Our passion for print is generations old, and that passion is just as strong today as it was when the Downie family first opened Kosdown.

We still print for our very first client and have dozens of customers who have been with us for decades; just as we have many staff who have also been with us for decades.

We believe in sharing our passion and knowledge, so we ensure we always have apprentices as part of the team, and continually train every other member of staff.

We are committed to maintaining that passion and maintaining our commitment to being the printer’s printer. We are currently undertaking ISO Accreditations for AS/NZS ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 18001 (OH&S) and ISO 14001 (Environment), we are Waste Wise certified by the Victorian Department of Sustainability, an FSC® Chain of Custody Member and we are also an member of Eco-Buy.

At Kosdown our passion for print is what transforms ordinary jobs into extraordinary ones.

Ink

Our Ink Saves Water

At Kosdown we have been committed to sustainable printing long before the environment became a talking point.

We were the first in Victoria to introduce water and chemical free plate making, and we only use 100% vegetable and soy based inks; technologies which save up to 150,000 litres of water a year, whilst being far safer for our staff and the environment.

We buy our paper and print in bulk lots wherever possible, reducing delivery and CO2 emissions; resulting in cheaper and more environmentally friendly runs. We’re Waste Wise certified and were one of the first printers in Australia to be FSC® accredited.

We are proud to say we were winners of the 2008 CitiPower Port Phillip Environmental Sustainably Award, and we will continue to embrace and develop further environmentally sustainable print practices for the benefit of everyone’s future.
